Policy

It is the policy of the College that public art will support the mission of Tacoma Community College and comply with the Acquisition Policy of the Permanent Art Collection. Public art will become part of the permanent collection.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to define and establish the terms and conditions for the acquisition of Public Art.

Procedure

  • The Vice President for Administrative Services will serve as the chair of the Committee for Public Art.
  • The Committee for Public Art will be composed of the following members:
    • Vice President for Administrative Services (chair)
    • Architect
    • Art Faculty Member
    • Board of Trustees Member
    • Classified Staff
    • Community Member
    • Exempt Staff
    • Faculty Member at Large
    • Gallery Coordinator
    • Local Artist
    • Representative from Building where art will be displayed
    • Student

A minimum of five invited participants to the committee must be present to make recommendations.

  • The Committee for Public Art will review public art proposals to ensure that they support the mission of Tacoma Community College and comply with the Policy for the Acquisition of Public Art and the Policy for the Acquisition of a Permanent Art Collection. 
  • The Committee for Public Art will be responsible for selecting the campus site for display of the art.  It will also determine the costs and obligations of display, insurance, maintenance, security, safety, transportation, and other related issues for public art. 
  • Upon completion of its review, the committee will make a recommendation to the Executive Staff and College President.
  • The Vice President of Administrative Services will be responsible for completing and maintaining contracts, copyright releases, insurance, photographic contracts, and related materials.
  • The Gallery Coordinator will be responsible for the care, documentation, and research of the art and maintaining the permanent collection file which will be housed in the Gallery. 
  • The Gallery Coordinator will make recommendations for conservation to the committee.
  • The Gallery coordinator and Facilities Department will work with the artist or appropriate parties to accomplish the transportation and installation of public art and signage on campus.
