Honors

Purpose

Celebrating excellence in students’ academic performance and achievement is an integral part of creating meaningful learning and strengthening student success. This policy creates quarterly and graduation honors which recognize students who have exemplary academic performance.

To Whom Does This Policy Apply

This policy applies to all enrolled, credit-bearing, Tacoma Community College students.

Definitions

Students are persons enrolled at the college.
Cumulative GPA is the GPA calculated on the Tacoma Community College transcript.

Policy

Dean’s List

This is awarded on a quarterly basis to students who earn a quarterly grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.

Graduation with High Honors

This is awarded to students who graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher.

Graduation with Honors

This is awarded to students who graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.69.

Procedure

Dean’s List notification will be sent to all students who qualify for the quarterly Dean’s List, and a notation of this achievement will be placed on the student’s official transcript.

Graduation with Honors and High Honors is based on the student’s cumulative GPA and is noted on the transcript after credentials have been posted. For commencement, honors are computed using grades earned through the winter quarter preceding commencement.
